Julio Laboy, Esq.
Julio Laboy graduated from the College of Law at Arizona State University, earning his Juris Doctor as well as a certificate in Indian Law. He was selected the graduation student speaker and finished law school a full semester early. Mr. Laboy has a Master of Arts in Mass Communications from California State University, Fullerton where he was also selected the student graduation speaker. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Journalism from Brooklyn College in New York City which Time Magazine labeled, "The Poor Man's Harvard."
Mr. Laboy accepted a position as a prosecutor with the Maricopa County Attorney's Office after completing law school and conducted numerous felony trials. Immediately following his tenure at the County Attorney's Office, Mr. Laboy began his own private criminal defense practice before working as a supervising attorney at a large Arizona criminal defense firm. He has extensive experience in misdemeanor, felony, and pre-file matters.
Prior to entering law school, Mr. Laboy spent nearly a decade working as an award winning writer for various newspapers including The Orange County Register, New York Newsday, and The Wall Street Journal, where he won awards for his coverage of minorities in business.
Mr. Laboy is also a former City of Phoenix Commissioner, having represented Mayor Phil Gordon on the Estrella Village Planning Committee. He also was appointed in late 2008 to a four year term as a member of the Buckeye Social Services Advisory Board. Mr. Laboy is certified to teach Criminal Justice Administration at the University of Phoenix and is licensed to practice law in the Superior Courts of Arizona and in the U.S. District Courts of Arizona.
Melanie Laboy, Esq.
Melanie is a firm founder. A successful criminal defense attorney, Melanie serves as a business consultant and trial lawyer for Laboy Law Office. Melanie graduated from Marquette University Law School in Milwaukee. She is a former prosecutor with the Maricopa County Attorney's Office where she prosecuted numerous felony and misdemeanor cases. Melanie also has previous courtroom experience in family and civil law, including complex construction defect litigation and civil mediation. Melanie also served as a Phoenix Commissioner when she was appointed by Mayor Phil Gordon to serve on the city's Development Advisory Board. Melanie is admitted to practice in both the State and Federal Courts of Arizona and Wisconsin.
William Cronin, Esq.
William assists the Firm in select matters of litigation on a case-by-case basis. A successful trial lawyer in felony and misdemeanor matters, William has seen dozens of trials, negotiated hundreds of plea agreements, and is well versed in Arizona DUI and MVD law. William graduated from California Western School of Law in San Diego and served as a public defender in Mohave County.
Jennifer Samaniego, Executive Assistant
Jennifer is the Firm's Executive Assistant. With years of law firm experience, Jennifer assists clients with the Firm's non-legal matters from calendaring, and filing motions to client calls and follow-up. Fluent in Spanish, Jennifer is a vital member of the Laboy Law Office staff with duties ranging from drafting motions to facilitating communication between the Firm and both the courts and prosecuting offices.
Deb Morgaina, Office Administrator
Many of our office partners, vendors, and clients have had the pleasure of working with Deb regarding payment plans, automatic withdrawals, banking matters, and other administrative needs. Deb is a key component of Laboy Law Office and with more than 15 years as a law office administrator in Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Phoenix and Scottsdale, we are very pleased that the Laboy Law Office team now includes Deb and her company, Avalon Consulting.
Mary DeSimone, Loan Modifications
Mary is a full-time Arizona licensed real estate broker with ABR and GRI designations. With more than 15 years of experience in Valley home sales, short sales, and loan modifications, Mary is a qualified and aggressive client representative who works extremely hard to re-negotiate your home loan with banks and other lenders.
Wil Vaisman, Legal Research
Wil is the preferred research professional for Laboy Law Office. Wil is an ABA-approved Paralegal Program graduate with more than seven years experience in legal research for BOTH prosecutors and criminal defense firms. He knows both sides of criminal research making him a unique resource that strengthens the Law Office's ability to best represent you. Wil holds a Master's Degree and is fluent in Spanish. He has researched cases in Arizona, California, and Nevada, while also having researched and written several appeals to the Arizona higher courts. Wil's portfolio includes, but is not limited to, research on major criminal, personal injury, and bankruptcy cases in both State and Federal Courts.
Rosa Regalado, Special Assistant
Rosa is the Law Office special assistant. Born in Ixhuatan, Oaxaca, Mexico, she is fluent in Spanish. Rosa also speaks Zapotec, the language of pre-Columbian indigenous peoples who resided in the Valley of Oaxaca making her a valuable communicator able to handle calls from Spanish-speaking clients.
Marta Montalvo, Office Consultant
Marta is the office consultant. Born in Puerto Rico and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Marta is bilingual and worked for more than 20 years as an office manager at New York City College of Technology. Marta holds a degree in Human Services and has studied psychology. She has a unique ability to understand the special needs of those under enormous stress and anxiety due to sudden crisis and/or tragedy. Marta studies Tai Chi and is a voracious reader.
Greisi De La Cruz, Intern
The office welcomes its first intern, Greisi. Greisi joined Laboy Law Office November 3, 2009. Pursuing a career as a paralegal, Greisi assists with many administrative duties at the office. She also will be attending scheduled State and Municipal Court hearings as an in-court attorney assistant/observer.
